Pay with Bitcoin: how Lightning tickets work (and why they're 5% cheaper)

Lightning payments settle in seconds and cost almost nothing to process. Here's how to pay, and why we pass the saving on to you.

This season you can pay for Irish FA tickets with Bitcoin over the Lightning Network — and save 5% on every order.

Why 5% off?

Card payments come with processing fees. Lightning payments settle in a second or two and cost a tiny fraction of that, so we pass the difference straight back to fans as a discount on the whole order.

How to pay

  1. Choose your seats and ticket types as normal.
  2. At checkout you'll see a Lightning invoice as a QR code.
  3. Scan it with any Lightning wallet — or, if you've linked a wallet to your account, pay in one tap.
  4. Your tickets appear in My tickets and the app as soon as payment clears.

Your seats are held for ten minutes while you pay. If the invoice expires, the seats go back on sale and nothing is charged.

Prices in sats

Ticket prices are set in pounds and shown in sats (a sat is one hundred-millionth of a bitcoin) with the pound equivalent alongside, based on the current exchange rate. A £45 Category 1 adult ticket, for example, is about 73,900 sats — or roughly 70,200 sats once your 5% Lightning saving comes off.

Other ways to pay

Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal are coming soon.
